Private contractors offer trash collection services in unincorporated areas of Scott County. Contractors are:

Municipal governments handle trash collection for residents of Huntsville, Oneida and Winfield.
Recycling — The Scott County Recycling Center, located at 735 Scott High Drive in Huntsville is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and accepts appliances and most types of recyclable waste. (423) 663-9770.

Property taxes — Property tax bills are mailed by the last Friday of September each year and are payable and due from Oct. 1-Feb. 28. For more information, call (423) 663-2598.

Building permits — Building permits are not required by Scott County.
Libraries
Scott County has three public libraries — in Huntsville, Oneida and Winfield — in addition to the Robbins Book Station. Our libraries foster reading for all ages and offer a variety of resources, including audio tapes for adults and children, computers with Internet access for public use, local history collections, microfilm readers and film collections, summer reading programs and story time programs, and more.

Parks & Recreation
Scott County has several public parks in addition to the North Cumberland Wildlife Management Area and the Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area. Oneida City Park is widely regarded as one of the best municipal public parks in the region. The Town of Huntsville and Town of Winfield also maintain public parks. A community park is maintained in Robbins.

Government
Scott County is governed by an elected county mayor, who serves as chief executive of the county, and a 14-member board of commissioners, elected by district. Commissioners meet on the third Monday of each month at the Scott County Office Building, beginning at 6 p.m. A work session is held on the first Monday of each month at the office building, beginning at 5 p.m. The Towns of Huntsville, Oneida and Winfield are governed by a mayor and four-member board of aldermen, elected in municipal elections every four years. The Scott County School System is governed by a seven-member board of directors, elected by district. The Oneida Special School District is governed by a five-member board of directors, elected by district. Each school district’s board appoints a director to administer day-by-day operations of the school district.
