Mayor Jeffers proclaims April ‘Child Abuse Prevention Month’

HUNTSVILLE — Scott County Mayor Jerried Jeffers on Tuesday signed a proclamation declaring the month of April 2023 as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Scott County.

The proclamation is part of Mayor Jeffers’ partnership with the Children’s Center of the Cumberlands, Oneida Mayor Jack E. Lay, and Huntsville Mayor J. Dennis Jeffers to raise awareness and fight against child abuse.

Following is the text of the proclamation issued by Mayor Jeffers:

WHEREAS, the County of Scott recognize crime victims’

    suffering, struggles, and loss, and value them as our family

   members, friends, neighbors and co-workers who have been

   harmed by crime; and

WHEREAS, we value the critical assistance and services that

    provide for crime victims’ basic needs such as fair treatment, 

   dignity, respect and information, and the life essentials, such as

   safe housing, food, support for their children, transportation,

   counseling and medical services; and

WHEREAS, we value those among us who work on behalf of crime

    victims to not only improve rights, services and treatment of

    victims of crime, but also build a better and more just community

    and country; and

WHEREAS, we value the right to be free from violence, to be safe in

    our homes and our life; and

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED, by the

    Board of Mayor and Aldermen of the County of Scott, Tennessee,

    and that the Month of April 2023 be proclaimed Child Abuse

    Prevention month.
